    About this opportunity:

    The Cenovus Drilling Department is looking to add another Senior Drilling Engineer to our SAGD team, located in Calgary, Alberta.

    Reporting to the Manager, Drilling Engineering, the Senior Drilling Engineer will have a strong technical background in engineering, operations, and project management. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for leading all planning activities until project is drill ready and then supporting operations when field activities are occurring.

    This role will also help peer review other areas of drilling activity, make suggestions for technical improvements, and mentor junior members of the team.

    What you'll do:

  • Drilling engineering activities covering multiple areas in the Cenovus SAGD portfolio including Lloyd Thermal, Sunrise, Foster Creek, and Christina Lake.
  • Ensure all activities follow regulatory, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Design, execute and improve drilling programs.
  • Research and implement innovative methods to increase performance and reduce costs through engineering techniques and operational design.
  • Monitor cost performance and cycle times to improve program efficiencies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Advise supply chain on procurement activity.
  • Liaise with field personnel to maintain project efficiency, from planning to look backs.
  • Collaborate with subsurface, completions, and production engineering to maximize value for the well cycle.
  • Ensure knowledge sharing practices are developed and maintained with the drilling group.
  • Responsible for conducting risk reviews, developing cost estimates, improving casing and cement basis of design documents, technical service selection, writing drilling programs, and completing project lookbacks.
  • Supporting operations during field activities to ensure well objectives are met while achieving continuous improvement for time and cost efficiency.
  • Who you are:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • APEGA Professional Engineer with approximately 8+ years of experience.
  • Diverse drilling background in SAGD, thermal, heavy oil is beneficial.
  • Strong drilling engineering skills and technical competencies (BHA design, casing design, bit selection, mud design, cementing design, etc.).
  • Strong background in current drilling operations and technology.
  • Strong leadership skills and mentorship capabilities.
  • Proven judgment, analytical, and business skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplined teams and a fast-paced environment.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, high motivation, exceptional technical, communication, and project management skills.
