Description

Reporting directly to the Rainforest Restoration Program Director (RRPD) and Executive Director (ED), Conservation Officers play a critical role in advancing the development and delivery of our high-quality, high-value, high-impact programs at Prime Earth.


Conservation Officers are specifically responsible for assisting with the logístical planning, coordination, and program development for all tree planting projects at Prime Earth.

This comprises a variety of important activities including extensive internet research, stakeholder relations, database management, GIS mapping, technical forestry support, program coordination, program promotions, and assisting with ongoing grant writing and program fundraising.


Responsibilities Include:

- [1] Program Delivery_

  • Perform online research, literature reviews, key word searches to develop and maintain computer databases with logístical research on multiple stakeholder groups for multiple tree planting locations in Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and other SE Asian locations
  • Assist with establishing short
- and long-term plans for management of forest lands and forest resources and provide technical support on tree improvement, seed orchard operations, insect and diseases surveys or experimental forestry and forest engineering research

  • Perform technical functions in the preparation of forest management plans using photogrammetric and mapping techniques and computerized information systems (GIS, Google Earth Pro, IUCN Databases)
  • Assist with developing plans for tree seedling production and woodlands nursery operations
[2] _Grant Writing, Fundraising, and Communications_

  • Generate engaging social media and website content to expand and update multiple communications platforms for fundraising and ongoing membership growth and program operations (ensuring all digital marketing content aligns with our brand's identity, mission, and messaging)
  • Assist with key messaging and design for optimizing program area webpages
  • Develop program related content for the Prime Earth enewsletters and blogs
  • Liaise with Communications Team Members to collect, analyze and report data on the impact of each conservation related communications campaign metrics for annual reports
  • Assist with ongoing grant writing seeking projectbased funding for ground truthing site assessments, as well as ongoing program growth and operations

Qualifications:


  • Excellent research, analytical, evaluation, and reporting skills with experience in project planning and development this can include academic knowledge gained through coursework, practical experience gained through employment/volunteer work, or a combination of the two.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems and troubleshoot difficult to find information, using search engines and comprehension skills to collect data that will be beneficial to advancing stakeholder relations from documents, scholarly sites, publications, videos and white papers.
  • Excellent creative design skills with demonstrated ability to generate content with great writing and compelling visual imagery (graphic design, video and audio editing)
  • Currently pursing or completed a college diploma or university degree in Environmental Science, Science, Conservation, Biology, and/or Sustainability, or a related field with proficient knowledge and academic training in GIS, GoogleEarthPro as well as forestry management, wildlife behaviour, sustainability, and/or conservation.
  • Proficient knowledge and skilled understanding of current environmental issues, biodiversity/wildlife and humananimal relations, and climate change.
  • Experience delivering creative, engaging conservationbased programs, fundraisers, awareness campaigns, community presentations, and events to a diverse audience.
  • Strong organization skills, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively with teammates to complete tasks on time with mínimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including report writing, translating complex scientific data into easytounderstand concepts, and speaking in front of groups in person and online.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals.
  • Poise and strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively on a diverse team with a variety of people from different cultures and subcultures, and regions.
  • Availability to work on flex hours with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to Prime Earth's mission.
