OPPORTUNITY

  • We are hiring a
    Fulltime Social Wellness Worker to join our team. This fulltime position is an opportunity to put your knowledge and technical skills to work.

Shift:


Monday - Friday (8.30am - 4.30pm)

THE ROLE:


  • Develop with the members his/her goals.
  • Support and assist members in their endeavors in attaining their academic, economic and/or personal goals.
  • Facilitate members participation in all aspects of programming and operations.
  • Provide one to one support, as well as group supports, with regards to individual goal setting related to life management skills, independent living skills, selfconfidence, personal health and wellness, vocational, recreation, social, etc.
  • Assists members to maximize abilities, develop skills and promote community independence.
  • Establishes supportive therapeutic relationship with members and advocates for, and with, members.
  • Recognizes and reports changes in members mental or physical condition.
  • Act as a role model.
  • Cultivate a caring, supportive, nonthreatening environment.
  • Ensure that the premises are maintained regarding safety and cleanliness.
  • Maintain current files on members and respect their confidentiality.
  • Collect, compile, and maintain statistics as required by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and your Program Director and/or his/her designate.
  • Adhere to the procedures regarding the financial systems in place.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor or delegate.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Postsecondary education (Mental Health/Addictions/Social Services Worker) and/or extensive experience in Health Sciences field including thorough knowledge of the issues relating to mental health and mental illness, recovery, life skills, recreational activities.
  • Minimum of 2 years' working experience in the Mental Health field is preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Personal Health Information and Protection Act, the Forensic Mental Health System, Social Service Benefits, and related legislations in Ontario.
  • Extensive knowledge of the issues relating to mental health and mental illness, recovery, life skills, recreational activities and working knowledge of the social, legal and support service network in the community.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, organization, and time management.
  • Demonstrated skills in wellbalanced judgement and decision making as it relates to the position and able to prioritize.
  • Demonstrated ability to observe boundaries, engage in appropriate emotional regulation, refrain from dual relationship with members.
  • Experience in group facilitation and adult education teaching models.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, team members and community colleagues.
  • Sound knowledge of psychotropic medications as well as some knowledge of medical medications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive therapeutic relationship with members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners and always represent the agency in a professional manner.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to organize and present information.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Flexible and gentle; observant; good sense of humor.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license, access to a dependable vehicle in safe working order and appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Valid and ongoing current training certificates in Abuse training, Back Care, First Aid, Fire Safety, Safe Management, Pharmacology and WHMIS are required.
