    Description

    An experienced horticulturist or farmer is the perfect fit for this role, but we are open to training a motivated individual who is eager to learn new skills that go beyond what other positions typically offer.

    On this job, you'll dive into various tasks ranging from working in our Apiary to Yard maintenance, where you'll get hands-on experience in tasks like weeding, spraying, carpentry, plumbing, and even basic electrical work.

    Your main responsibility will be overseeing the maintenance and operations of a 16-acre market garden farm equipped with cutting-edge tools and technologies that involve innovative practices - some of which are unconventional, such as vertical farming, hydroponics, and plastic raised bed cultivation.

    The vast gardens must be kept flourishing and continuously enhanced by adding new landscape beds and improving existing ones. On rainy days, you'll have the opportunity to work in cozy greenhouses or our fully equipped workshop. If you already hold a pesticide license, that's a definite plus, but if not, we can assist you in obtaining one. You should have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license in good standing, and be prepared to become bonded when required. Getting your hands dirty is all part of the job, while maintaining spotless equipment is a top priority. This is a full-time year-round position with compensation based on experience, starting at $18+ per hour.

    Here are some key requirements you need to meet:

    • Ability to handle the physical demands of agricultural work
    • Able to lift 50 pounds
    • Capable of working 8 hours continuously
    • Willing to work in adverse weather conditions as needed
    • Passion for food production and sustainability
    • Flexible to adapt to the varying demands of agricultural production, including changing tasks, weather conditions, and willingness to work overtime if required
    • Demonstrated ability to complete assigned tasks promptly
    • Previous experience in crop production
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Effective communication abilities
    • Knowledge of basic computer skills is advantageous
    • Experience in designing, setting up, and operating farmer market stands is a plus
    • Proficiency in greenhouse tasks and seedling propagation
    • Skills in weed management and pest control
    • Experience in setting up and operating irrigation systems
    • Harvesting and preparing vegetables for market sale
    • Ensuring harvested vegetables meet the required size, appearance, and quality standards
    • Monitoring harvest supplies to ensure timely ordering
    • Accurate record-keeping of harvest information
    • Coordinating field transplanting and weed control
    • Managing crop covers effectively
    • Field irrigation operations
    • Overseeing greenhouse activities, including crop pruning and environmental management
    • Coordinating greenhouse tasks efficiently
    • Watering greenhouse plants
    • Implementing weed and pest control measures
    • Harvesting produce in the greenhouse and maintaining precise harvest records
