General Summary
The Assistant Manager oversees the day to day payroll processes including coordinating the work of the department Specialists.

The position is responsible for payroll accounting, taxes, garnishments, general payroll deductions, coordinating and processing of the bi-weekly pay for two locations including an additional monthly payroll.

They will also work closely with the Human Resources department to maintain and manage the operating systems (i.e., Oracle, Kronos, ADP) used in payroll processing.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Manage the biweekly full cycle payroll for 1000+ Team Members, hourly and salary, using Oracle/ADP for 2 locations, including a monthly Japanese payroll.
  • Confirms accuracy of payroll data such as new hire setup, terminations, promotions, transfers, salary changes and reporting relationship changes
  • Prepare payroll remittances to various thirdparty payees such as CRA, WSIB, wage garnishments, payroll taxes, group benefits premiums, etc.
  • Review/update payroll policies, processes and procedures and develop strategies aimed to improve processes and increase payroll productivity
  • Prepare ROE's as required, complete year end processing including T4's and reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance to legislation and employment standards
  • Collaborate with TBCA Leadership on time and attendance issues for payroll purposes
  • Calculate and process pay adjustments, garnishments, pension and other deductions.
  • Complete data entry, processing, and reconciliation for payroll taxes, team member banking information, and Supplemental Benefits including necessary troubleshooting.
  • Prepare month end reports for Finance
  • Lead the Payroll team in preparing, organizing, and auditing all data for payroll processing.
  • Promote an effective team environment and act as a mentor, demonstrate leadership attributes and share technical expertise with your Payroll Specialist team.

Requirements:


  • 5+ years' experience in handling highvolume payrolls and managing a payroll department
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or CPC designation is required
  • Postsecondary education with a focus in Administration, Human Resources or Accounting preferred
  • Excellent computer skills are required, including advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Solid comprehension and understanding of payroll/timekeeping practices, employment legislation, CRA regulations and accounting principles
  • Highly organized with effective time management and decisionmaking skills
