Description
The Human Resource Consultant, Compensation and Benefits, provides leadership and expertise on compensation and benefits activities with the organization.

The incumbent provides advice and consultation to staff and leadership on human resources matters, specifically related to compensation, pension and benefit programs, policies and practices.


Job Duties:


Administers the compensation, benefit, alternate rewards and pension programs and policies of the WCB including research, development, design and implementation.

Supports the Joint Job Evaluation Committee and oversees the evaluation process and administration for all in-scope jobs.

Acts as a resource to the Joint Pension Advisory Committee and the Joint Employee Benefits Committee

Coordinates the design, communication and distribution of the annual Benefit Statements for staff.


Monitors costs and provides operating budget forecasts for compensation and benefits programs and consulting costs for the WCB benefit and pension plans.


Provides background materials, research, wage costs projections, benefit costing summaries for improvement proposals for collective bargaining and assists with grievance-related issues.

Prepares summaries and reports of compensation, benefit and pension activities, issues and project progress.

Prepares benefit bulletins and communication articles to inform employees of benefit coverage changes or benefit legislation changes.


Conducts training sessions and coordinates external consultant information sessions for benefits, compensation, pension and other human resources topics as required.


Establishes and maintains working relationships with various consultants and experts in the compensation and benefits field in the public and private sector to ensure ongoing awareness of the latest trends and developments.

Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education and training, literature reviews, workshops, seminars, etc.

Provides pre-retirement consultation to retiring employees; Acts as the point of contact for pensioners.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

University Degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a focus in Human Resource Management or a related discipline

Five (5) years of recent and related human resource experience with a focus on compensation, benefits and pension, preferably in a unionized setting

Knowledge of the principles of job classification systems and job evaluation processes

Knowledge of group benefit and pension plan administration

Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and software in a Windows environment

Well-developed research, initiative, planning and organization, analytical and problem solving skills

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills

Ability to display tact, diplomacy and good judgement and to maintain confidentiality

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders including the ability to collaborate and influence effectively

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple demands and adapt to organizational change

Ability to generate innovative solutions to work situations

Ability to work independently and make a positive contribution within a team environment

Working towards a Chartered Professional of Human Resources (CPHR) designation would be an asset

Working towards a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) would be an asset


Additional Information:

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset.
