Our mission at Victoria Hospice Society is to improve the quality of life for people dealing with life
- limiting illness, death, and bereavement. We are considered a leader in the development of information, tools and resources to assist in the provision of expert palliative care and have emerged as an international expert in palliative and symptom management.


Through our Education and Research Department, we provide resources and training to hundreds of staff and volunteers, including medical professionals, health care providers, caregivers and volunteers.

We deliver workshops for educational institutions, government and community agencies and since 2005, have worked with Island Health to deliver the End of Life Care workshop series to hospices and hospitals across Vancouver Island.

About the Role_


Reporting to the Director, Education & Research, and with work direction from the Education and Quality Improvement Lead, the Project Assistant is an integral part of the Victoria Hospice's Education and Research department supporting the team with education, research and quality improvement activities, such as literature reviews, data analysis, evaluation and report writing.

Duties and Responsibilities_

  • Supports the development of projects: through the creation, collection, compilation, analysis and synthesis of relevant and required information,
  • Supports the management of department and organization projects and initiatives by participating in:
  • Development of proposals, charters, project plans and definition of deliverables; o Conducting literature reviews and environmental scans; o Monitoring and assessment of progress and taking/recommending corrective action; o Monitoring and reporting requirements through analytical and coordination support and the development of related status reports;
  • Development of presentations and other engagement and communication approaches, as required to support work internally and externally to VHS;
  • Acting as a resource for the program with regard to all statistical information and maintaining an overview of all projects in the program; and
  • Drafting and producing a variety of information such as reports, presentations, proposals, and statistical summaries.

Skills and Abilities_
- _Strong analytical skills, including the ability to find, collect, analyze and interpret data, use basic statistical concepts and prepare written reports._
- _Great communication and relationship-building skills_
- _Adaptable; able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks while achieving quality results_
- _Proficient with MS Office Suite mandatory;_

Education, Training and Experience_

  • Post secondary education equivalent to two years, including courses such as research methods and statistical analysis, project management, data collection, report writing
  • Advanced use of word processing, project management, database, and spreadsheet software.
This is a temporary one year full-time position. Some evening or weekend hours may be required.

The salary range is $42,070 - $52,586 annually.

This position may be eligible for hybrid work.

This position is covered by the Provincial Health Officer's mandatory COVID-19 vaccination order.
