As a Regulated Heath Professional under the Regulated Health Professions Act, Pharmacy Technicians will provide services within their scope of practice in collaboration with and under the guidance of Registered Pharmacists.


Duties:

***The following essential duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • All aspects of Pharmacy Technician tasks as defined in the NAPRA Standards Practice for Pharmacy Technician practice from the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Understand and operate Meditech and Kroll Pharmacy software, Omnicell XT, OCRA, PacMed, and all systems supporting the dispensing and distribution function.
  • Participate in the distribution process and Pharmacy support responsibilities.
  • Participate in Medication Reconciliation Activities.
  • Packaging and delivery of pharmaceutical products to patient care units or other facilities as needed; may require lifting boxes of varying weights ranging from lbs.
  • Packaging, preparation and ensuring shipment of products as required.
  • Communicate performance and quality standards expectations to fellow teammates (technicians and Pharmacy support personnel).
  • Ensure the proper flow and documentation of prescription distribution is followed at all times.
  • Ensure appropriate quality controls are in place and communicate to pharmacy teams and facility partners in situations in which quality may have been compromised.
  • Utilize good communication skills and possess the ability to multitask.
  • Carry out duties according to procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of daily job duties and responsibilities.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal's Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is mandatory.
  • Previous hospital experience is an asset.
  • Experienced in performing pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Familiar with commonly used health care terminology.
  • Professional attitude, honest and dependable.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Customerservice oriented.
  • Familiar with the pharmacy law, ethics, conduct related law, privacy and liability issues within pharmacy settings.
  • Must successfully complete standard training upon hire, i.e. pharmacy systems, applicable technology, etc.
  • Familiar with basic inventory skills related to storage, security and legal issues.
  • English level A is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range:

to 36.17 per hour
