The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range:
$70,137- $77,330
starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.


Performance range:
starting salary to max of $91,214
is available through annual performance increases.

  • Job SummaryUCAM provides campuswide leadership in and is responsible for the university's internet communications strategies, from supporting university policy through standards, guidelines and procedures to internetbased infrastructure, including websites, social media channels and video. The web content strategist promotes and facilitates implementation and supports the use of effective internet communications strategies at the university. They provide expertise to both centralized and decentralized web resources on campus.


The Web Content Strategist will work as part of a team focused on two key communications streams: internal communications, focusing on staff/faculty engagement; and emergency communications, focusing on internal, external and community engagement, depending on the incident at hand.

The latter may require the Web Content Strategist to be available to work extended hours, in the evenings or on weekends, should an emergent situation arise.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications and Public Relations, the Web Content Strategist will provide advice, coordination, research, writing and editorial leadership with content strategy for university websites with the objective to ensure content is:

  • Accurate and up to date
  • Clear, concise and scannable
  • Appropriate in tone and consistent in editorial voice and brand
  • Effective in targeting appropriate audiences (with a particular focus on internal staff/faculty audiences and on external audiences in crisis/emergency situations)
  • Engaging and serves to enhance the reputation of the university
  • Consistent with institutional positioning, the UVic strategic plan, the Integrated Marketing and Communications Plan, department/faculty priorities, content strategy best practices, University Communications and Marketing standards and the UVic Style Guide

Core responsibilities include:

  • Content strategy, planning, development and management
  • Development and placement of copy and implementation of rich media for websites
  • Training and support for web content creators and editors
  • Contributing to and engaging with the appropriate internal community of practice to learn and share skills, training and specialized knowledge
  • Development and maintenance of web content that reflects institutional positioning, web best practices, UVic Brand Guidelines and the UVic Style Guide. This includes wellwritten copy, appropriate photos and video, social media, and other content assets
  • Creating new landing pages and web assets, as required, to support the launch of key UVic strategic projects and priorities
  • Supporting effective crisis and emergency communications by providing web support, as and when required, to communicate to the UVic community and broader public, often on short notice, under short timelines and in potentially tense or stressful situations
  • Job RequirementsA bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and a minimum of five years' experience creating and managing web content for multiple target audiences.

Experience must include:

  • Understanding of web content strategy, advanced accessibility best practices, strategic communications and marketing, information architecture and user experience.
  • Developing web content to support user engagement, searchengine optimization and website conversion.
  • Knowledge and experience using authoring/web/publishing tools such as Cascade, WordPress and Upaknee.
  • Interpreting informationarchitecture documents to effectively create a focused website content strategy.
  • Analyzing web traffic and engagement reports (using Google Analytics 4 and related tools) to identify areas for improving page performance.
  • Google Analytics 4 certification is preferred
