    Job Overview
  • The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular fulltime Budget Analyst to join our team of professionals in the Finance Division, Financial Planning Department. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Financial Planning, in this unionized position you will assist in a variety of accounting operations including the preparation of operating and capital budgets, and financial forecasts. This position will appeal to applicants who are detailoriented with a range of knowledge and experience in financial budget and planning.
  • Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing operating and capital budgets and financial forecasts
  • Participate in developing reporting schedules, incorporate capital, project submissions, and ensure compliance with established governing procedures and policies
  • Monitor and analyze accounts and statements to ensure accurate and informative presentation of accounting and financial data
  • Assist in the preparation of a variety of materials including financial reports, statements and yearend and periodend reports
  • Provide advice, information and support to staff related to budget planning, guidelines, and funding sources
  • Participate in conducting studies and provide information and assistance to auditors on budget matters
  • Establish and maintain liaison with a variety of internal contacts
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and enrollment in Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP) plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, and statutory requirements governing municipal financial operations
  • Sound knowledge of the organization and functions of the various departments
  • Ability to analyze and interpret various financial, budget, accounting and cost control information and data and to develop logical solutions to budget variance and financial reporting problems
  • Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and schedules related to the work performed
  • Ability to assist in developing, organizing, maintaining, and improving a comprehensive budget and cost control program including computer based financial and related systems
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of municipal staff and external contacts
