PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting to the Manager, Research Insights, the Research Analyst is a key member of the Research & Analytics team.

The Research Analyst is responsible for handling client requests for business intelligence and provides expert analysis and advice, and/or conduct research projects in order to meet these needs.

The Research Analyst will be responsible for interpreting tourism industry statistics relevant to a variety of Destination BC programs to support the business goals of these programs, as well as communicating these research findings through various forums including internal and external presentations, working groups and committees.


SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Analyzing, using appropriate statistical techniques, large databases and producing descriptive and analytical reports for senior management, the tourism industry, media, and the public on tourism trends, economic issues and marketing performance.
  • Works as part of internal and external crossfunctional teams to understand business problems and how research can be applied to address those problems.
  • Fulfilling frequent research information requests from industry, media, consultants, other government agencies, Destination BC management and staff, and the general public.
  • Participating in major research projects, through research project design, interviewer training, questionnaire/survey design, project management, and analysis of databases and other activities, with the guidance of senior staff.
  • Preparing, and managing the production of widely circulated Destination BC research publications such as the Value of Tourism, Tourism Indicators, and Regional/Market/Sector Profiles.
  • Preparing briefing notes and presentations for senior management, and making presentations at Board meetings and meetings of senior management, as required.
  • Preparing and leading presentations and workshops at industry and association meetings and conferences.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of research project results, ensuring confidentiality and security of databases containing sensitive business specific data and information in compliance with privacy laws and government, corporate and industry standards.
  • Negotiating and managing research contracts for research projects valued up to $50,000.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Postsecondary degree in research, analytics, statistics, business administration, or other quantitative discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in market research and / or primary consumer research and analysis, trend analysis and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of research plans, research project design, statistical analysis and the manipulation and determining the reliability of large and complex databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information from diverse sources.
