Employment Status Full Time Employment Type Fixed Term Job Summary Specific Duties

  • Control the dispatch and return of specialist tools to and from the toolroom.
  • Control the use of tools available in mobile and wallmounted toolboxes in the workshop area.
  • Perform overall upkeep of and routine & spot maintenance of Industrial Mechanic, Machinist, Power Engineering and Plumbing shops and related equipment and tools, including installation and commissioning, so as to keep items in proper working order, ready for use at all times.
  • Keep shops and related facilities in clean, professional and ready for use condition by performing daily maintenance, tool and bench cleaning, reshelving of supplies and materials, etc.
  • Establish and operate (including publication) of a maintenance scheme and coordinate that scheme with instructional activities.
  • Coordinate the timetabling and use of shop facilities.
  • In consultation with faculty, establish inventories of supplies & consumables and ensure availability as required.
  • Assist instructors during shop activities.
  • Provide First Aid support.
  • Invigilate exams.
  • Liaise with other College departments.
  • Attend departmental meetings to provide input on matters relating to the workshop and departmental policy.
  • Construct and prepare teaching aids and other shop equipment necessary for teaching.
  • Responsible for establishing and monitoring & reporting on safe work practices in the shop and related facilities.
  • Maintain a complete library of tool manuals, maintenance manuals, etc. of all equipment and tools.
  • Monitor WHMIS compliance within the shop areas including keeping an inventory of controlled products, and ensuring containers of controlled products have correct WHMIS labeling.
  • Keep a complete and up to date inventory of all tools and equipment.
  • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
  • You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Industrial Mechanic or a Machinist Trades Qualification or a Power Engineer 4th Class.
  • Five years of demonstrated, related education and experience in the maintenance, repair and calibration of equipment. Specific experience and training with machining and related support equipment will be required.
  • Demonstrated abilities to troubleshoot and problem solve with the objective of meeting student and teaching needs.
  • Ability to work independently, being proactive in identifying needs and tasks, organize and coordinate several activities and work with competing priorities.
  • Interpersonal skills suitable for effective interaction with other College departments, faculty, staff & students, outside agencies, suppliers, etc.
  • Level 2 First Aid Certificate required.
