In this role, you will:

Responsibility - Program promotion and development

  • Promote Friendly Calls program initiatives and encourage client development in the health and social services and community sectors.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a tool to identify current and future needs of the Friendly Calls program.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a referral program to encourage client development.
  • Gather data used to prepare reports evaluating the success of the Friendly Calls and Aging with Care programs.
  • With the manager's support, develop strategies and approaches to engage community organizations.
Responsibility - Volunteer workforce development

  • Strengthen and train the volunteer workforce to provide Friendly Calls services while leveraging existing Red Cross programs and support teams.
  • Integrate and coach volunteers within the scope of the assigned responsibilities.
  • Work with the CRC's Volunteer Resources department on volunteer recruitment and recordkeeping.
  • Implement procedures to gather suggestions, ideas, and feedback to encourage continuous improvement.
Responsibility - Work environment/occupational health and safety

  • Participate in and promote the required health and safety training and orientations.
  • Promote and encourage respectful communication between all personnel and clients to foster a healthy and safe workplace.
  • Be aware of and follow health, safety, and quality policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all employees, volunteers, and clients.
  • Ensure that all incidents and near misses are reported promptly and accurately.
  • Participate in discussions about safety awareness during team meetings.
  • Help foster a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Complete all training required for the position.
  • Perform other tasks, as required.
Responsibility - Communication

  • Participate in meetings with various internal and external partners and follow up with them regularly.
  • Engage with community sector partners to enhance program planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Ensure that program activities meet the highest ethical standards and that client files remain confidential.
  • Represent the program in various settings and with diverse audiences.

What we are looking for:

  • One to three years of experience in a related field.
  • Postsecondary education (an asset).
  • Excellent communication skills in English and French.
  • Strong teamwork and partnershipbuilding skills.
  • Experience training or supervising volunteers (an asset).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong empathy, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Punctuality and organizational skills.
  • An understanding of and clear commitment to confidentiality and privacy.

Working conditions:

  • Most of the work will be performed in an office environment or remotely.
  • Travel within the province and across Canada may be a part of the job duties.
  • The incumbent may be required to respond in disaster areas, as well as difficult and unstable conditions (environmentally, physically, socially, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients).
  • They may be required to lift relief supplies of up to 20 kg during preparedness activities and responses.
  • They may be required to respond during nontraditional hours (i.e., late nights or weekends) and work long hours in a demanding setting.
  • The incumbent may be required to be on call when scheduled.
  • If you are selected for this role, you must complete a successful preemployment screening process, which includes a satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC).
