The Opportunity:


Combining project management, team leadership, and communications expertise, the Marketing & Communications Operations Manager will contribute to the overall success of Olds College's marketing and communications functions.

This role will report to the Director, Marketing & Communications and will be responsible for the management of various staff and projects within the Marketing & Communications department.

The Marketing & Communications Operations Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing effective processes and procedures for the department, ensuring that tasks and projects are consistently completed on time and on budget.

Additionally, the manager will liaise with third-party vendors, actively manage the work of the creative team within the department, and facilitate budgetary


Key Job Functions:


  • Manage a team of communications professionals in the area of writing, web design, graphic design and event management.
  • Manage all aspects of marketing operations; this includes the prioritization and allocation of work within the marketing department based upon a clear understanding of organizational goals
  • Identify, design, and document scalable processes that enable the marketing team to be more effective in their daily work and drive alignment within the department.
  • Develop measurement plans with benchmarks and goals for campaigns
  • Manage the work within the Brand guidelines of Olds College
  • Manage an operational budget

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:


  • 3 to 5 years of marketing and communications experience
  • Preferably a certificate in project management
  • PMP preferred, CAPM will be considered (or equivalent experience)
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Postsecondary education related to communications or marketing or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in postsecondary education considered a strong asset
  • Very strong writing and editing skills
  • Very strong graphic design skills
  • Strong writing, presentation and networking skills.
  • Experience fielding stakeholder inquiries and implement actions to ensure requests are resolved and directed as appropriate.
  • Ability to comply with and follow established policies, procedures, guidelines and direction in effect and applicable.
  • Displays honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions.
  • An understanding of financial budgets, reporting and financial transactions with a high level of internal controls ensuring accuracy, completeness and proper controls in cash handling, the segregation of duties, and reconciliations.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Outgoing, inclusive and welcoming nature.
