As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help support current and future industry professionals and become an art of Canada's leading polytechnic.


Reporting to the Department Head, Transportation department in the School of Skilled trades, the position is responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of our lab/shop spaces.

The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab/shop environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubrics and assessments tools provide by instructors, to evaluate students.


Key Responsibilities:


Lab/Shop:

  • Maintain and calibrate lab/shop equipment
  • Ensure lab security
  • Manufacture specialized items when required
  • Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition
  • Liaison with other sections or programs when required

Inventory and Budget Control:

  • Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment
  • Obtain quotes when ordering new equipment
  • Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature

Instructional Support:

  • Independently, and/or team teach, deliver in lab/shop technical activities/lessons
  • Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
  • Independent supervision of students
  • Demonstrate lab/shop equipment
  • Prepare, setup and dismantle lab/shop exercises
  • Assist or perform lab/shop demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support
  • Assist instructional staff when require to ensure the safe and correct use of equipment
  • Assist instructors in the development of new lab/shop exercises

Student Support:

  • Provide tutorial/remedial
  • Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
  • Ensure students are working in a safe condition

  • Strong Oral & Written communication
  • Strong Interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management & Organizational Skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
  • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
  • Ability to work flexible hours and assignments

Qualifications:


  • Trades certification and/or related technical diploma/degree
years post journeyman completion

  • Class 5 drivers license required
  • Forklift training an asset
  • Manlift training an asset
  • Fall Arrest an asset
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience

Remuneration:
$2, $3,012.40 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Instructional Assistant II).

  • This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
