    The Pharmacy Assistant will support the day to day operations of the Specialty Oncology Drug store located in the Oncology Clinic at the General site of SHN. The successful candidate will provide patients with high quality care, influencing a positive overall patient experience. Excellent communication and leadership skills along with strong retail pharmacy dispensary experience, attention to detail and patient safety practices are required for success in this position. Working directly with pharmacists, patients and their health care team of nurses and physicians, the pharmacy assistant will fill prescriptions, manage inventory, 3rd party claims and will have a strong working knowledge of Kroll, private drug coverage and Ontario Drug Benefit.

    Responsibilities:


    • Accurate input of patient information and prescription information into Kroll

    • Accurate prescription filling while maintaining safe and efficient workflow practices

    • Directly interacting with patients during prescription intake, pick up and phone calls

    • Educating and assisting patients about their drug plans, Ontario Drug Benefit (including Trillium) and deductibles

    • Liaise and collaborate with members of the patient′s oncology team: eg. patient and caregivers, oncologist, nurse, pharmacists

    • Drug coverage 3rd party management, reconciliation and adjudication of 3rd party payors.

    • Maintain pharmacy stock through inventory management including monitor levels, medication procurement and inventory reconciliation

    • Conduct best possible medication history (BPMH)

    • Arranging medication deliveries to patients and reconciling confirmation of receipt

    • Quality assurance activities including but not limited to: expiry date checking, medication storage area inspections, audits

    • Comply with policies and procedures

    • Cashier responsibilities

    • Other duties as required.

    Requirements:


    • Minimum of 1 year retail pharmacy experience in Ontario

    • Proficient data entry skills

    • Experience with retail pharmacy third party billing and Ontario Drug Benefits

    • Knowledge of legislation and pharmacy related regulatory requirements for community pharmacy practice.

    • Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency of computer software programs - including MS Office

    • Demonstrates ability to handle sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality

    • Demonstrates, excellent, effective and courteous interpersonal verbal and written communication skills

    • Proven conflict management/resolution skills

    • Demonstrates ability to exercise sound judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills

    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, detail oriented

    • Pharmacy Technician program graduate

    • Previous hospital pharmacy experience

    • Previous retail pharmacy experience in an oncology practice setting

    • Previous inventory management experience in retail or hospital pharmacy

    • Experience using Kroll system

    • Experience using Epic health information system

    • Ability to speak another language an asset
