    Description

    The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

    The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

    Duties:

    VIU's Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services is seeking instructors to deliver clinical skills courses within the Pharmacy Technician diploma program at the Cowichan campus for July and August. This program is in partnership with Selkirk College, and instructors will be expected to work in collaboration with Selkirk College's Pharmacy Technician Program Coordinator for the duration of the courses.

    Plan, prepare and instruct program courses; use creative adult learning strategies in the preparation and delivery of in-person clinical skills; assessment and evaluation of student learning; recording and submitting grades; providing support to students to ensure their success; working collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners.
    Instructors may teach more than 1 course. Courses are as follows:

  • PTEC 220 - Technology for Product Distribution July 2-5, 8-11
  • PTEC 221 - Prescription Dispensing July 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 August 6 & 7

    Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.

    Required Qualifications:

    Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia Pharmacy Technician certificate or diploma from an appropriately accredited institution in Canada;

  • Current practice in an institutional pharmacy environment, including aseptic compounding, and/or current practice in a community pharmacy environment;
  • Solid understanding of the scope and role of pharmacy technicians in the health care system;
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings;
  • Responsive to a diverse student population;
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning, and student success.
  • To instruct PTEC 220 and PTEC 221: Working knowledge of Kroll is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma, or its equivalent, completed or in progress (maximum two years to completion) from an accredited institution;
  • Experience teaching adults in a post-secondary setting;
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (D2L) in an educational setting.
