The Client Development Manager provides business development and marketing support to the Disputes and Litigation practices across the firm.

This role works collaboratively with our broader Client Development & Marketing team and reports to the Director, Client & Business Development.


Major Responsibilities

  • Supports the development of strategic business development and marketing plans, and leads the implementation of tactics to achieve revenue growth objectives identified in the plans
  • Leads and supports key account management activities with the goal of strengthening client relationships
  • Conducts competitive intelligence research in connection with potential clients or markets, market developments and competitor activities
  • Conducts preliminary research on various external tools such as Canlii and Westlaw to ascertain status of certain litigation files
  • Assists in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and targets, facilitating crossselling initiatives and participating on clientspecific teams
  • Supports the pricing function in developing alternative fee arrangements and budgeting for new and existing mandates
  • Leads the planning and execution of client seminars, major client events and other educational initiatives
  • Evaluates sponsorship and coordinates sponsorship related deliverables (logos, marketing collateral, signage etc.)
  • Advises on content and positioning in connection with responses to RFPs, credentials and other salesrelated documents as needed
  • Identifies opportunities for increased visibility with business, trade and legal media, and working with the firm's Media Relations Manager, capitalizes on these opportunities
  • Leads the development of submissions to approved ranking services and directories (e.g. Chambers and Partners)
  • Coordinates with legal professionals and Marketing team on internal communications requirements, external marketing communications including website content, and thought leadership activities
  • Management of attendance at, and business development opportunities stemming from, conferences

Education and Experience
The roles requires a university or college diploma (preferably in business), plus minimum of five years of relevant experience. Experience in a legal or professional services environment is preferred. Experience working with litigation department considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be acceptable.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Confident, proactive, and highly organized individual
  • Discretion and a strong client service orientation are essential
  • Must be a selfstarter and be highly motivated to handle a fastpaced environment
  • A team player who also works well independently
  • Extremely well organized with superb attention to detail, disciplined execution and followthrough skills
  • Excellent time management skills are essential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
