Laundromat Attendant - Receptionist

Position Type:
Regular Full Time - 64 hours bi-weekly


Location:
Downtown, Calgary


Position Summary


The Laundromat Support Worker oversees the day-to-day operation of the laundromat and assists residents and the public that use the laundromat.


Hours/Schedule
Regular Full Time - 64 hours bi-weekly; Tuesday-Wednesday, and Saturday-Sunday; 9:00 am to 5:30 pm


What you will be doing in your role

  • Opens and closes the laundromat.
  • Welcomes and assists users with operation of washers and dryers.
  • Monitors laundry loads, watching that no items containing tar or similar substances are put into machines.
  • Maintains a safe, supportive, and clean environment for all laundromat users.
  • Wipes down machines, inside and out, at the end of the shift.
  • Notifies supervisor if machines are not operating and/or need attention.
  • Monitors supply inventory and notifies supervisor when supplies need replenishing.
  • Tracks laundromats use and enters data into the database.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies, including contacting West Desk.
  • Logs resident names and completes laundry room sheet (usage stats).
  • Enters data from the laundry room sheet into the data base.
  • Develops and documents options and recommendations to issues and problems.
  • Creates posters/signage to communicate laundromat hours to residents and the public.
  • Prepares incident reports, as required.

Required Education, Experience and Competencies

  • Completion of high school diploma
  • Satisfactory Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Up to one year of related experience with at least three (3) months experience working with homeless individuals
  • Understanding of, and ability to, work with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities that are vulnerable and find themselves homeless
  • Good customer service skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Basic computer skills to enter information into a database
  • Awareness and support of The Salvation Army Community Services (Calgary) Mission and Values
  • Background check consent
