Sample Preparation Technician - ARD
Acid Rock Drainage Laboratory

Reporting to the
Laboratory Supervisor/Laboratory Manager, the
Sample Preparation Technician - ARD will be responsible for performing sample preparation of Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) mining samples including crushing, pulverizing, sieving of rock and soil samples.
The Laboratory Technician will perform basic equipment maintenance, and provides general lab support in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures and health and safety policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receiving, login, crushing, and pulverizing of client mining samples
- Maintain sample preparation equipment
- Ensure detailed and accurate records are kept of work performed
- Identify and communicate procedural nonconformances with the lab manager
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mixup and cross contamination between samples and other materials
- Provide general lab support
- Provide manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
- Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
- Participate, when requested in department and health and safety meetings
- Participate, when requested in internal and external audits
- Keep work area clean, neat and organized
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Experience, Qualifications & Required Skills
- Minimum Diploma from a Technician Institute (chemistry preferred) or postsecondary school education with at least 1 year laboratory experience
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Proficient in LIMS would be considered an asset
- Good timemanagement, communication, multitasking and priority setting skills
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible to a changing environment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Detail orientated & good record keeping skills
- Good handeye coordination, to use technical equipment with accuracy
- Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and instructions
- Ability to learn quickly
- Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting of up to 50 lbs
