Yukon University Research Services Office seeks an individual to join our growing office as a Research Development Coordinator. This position plays a key role in cultivating a culture that celebrates research and scholarly activity across YukonU's campuses.

Your innovative ideas and energy will create new opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in research and scholarly activity.

They will support the development of accessible and efficient processes to enhance YukonU's research administration.


As a Research Development Coordinator, you will work across the university to promote a lively and collegial internal research culture.

This will include the creation or coordination of multiple opportunities (forums, events, seminars and workshops) for researchers to meet informally and develop shared interests and initiatives including grant-writing seminars, and ideation sessions.

This will also include providing a range of project management services to increase ambition and readiness for external funding opportunities.

You will coordinate an annual interdisciplinary faculty cohort centered around a unifying theme.

The research Development Coordinator will also support YukonU's commitment to Indigenization through supporting knowledge creation and research activities that are borne from both Indigenous and Western knowledge.


The position will also serve as a grant facilitator to support the development of grant proposals and provide post-award management of external research funding.


At YukonU the RSO is a place with lots of room to innovate new practices and procedures to support YukonU's growing research portfolio.

Your insight and experience, combined with your attention to detail and care for the work you do will benefit the team and those at YukonU who engage in research.

The Research Development Coordinator offers a high level of customer service in a fast-paced, deadline-driven administrative department.

You act as the first point of contact for YukonU students, faculty, and staff and provide professional advice and guidance to facilitate the development of competitive research grants and contracts.

Operating with the utmost professionalism, you also manage sensitive and confidential information.


Essential Qualifications (assessed in the screening process)

Education and Training

  • A combination of relevant postsecondary experience and workrelated experience could be considered,

Demonstrated abilities:

  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure;
  • A solid working knowledge of the Canadian research ecosystem with considerable experience in science communication and knowledge mobilization;
  • Considerable experience developing multiyear budgets, inkind valuations, and leveraging of funding;
Knowledge skills and abilities (factors assessed through the interview process):

  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups on shared projects, with strategic planning, and in setting and achieving goals;
  • Ability to innovate to identify opportunities and take responsive action.
  • Strong problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, and executing events.
  • Understand communications strategies, marketing, media relations, and coordination of public events well enough to plan program activities in a way that supports appropriate marketing efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials.
  • Able to work nonstandard schedules at times to deal with deadlines/travel.
  • Demonstrated service orientation with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to critically read and interpret documents related to terms of agreements, financial obligations, legal liability, and risk mitigation.
