    Description


    Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Senior Indirect Tax Analyst role will report to the Manager, Tax.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for compliance with all Canadian and United States indirect tax requirements undertaken within Inter Pipeline.

    You will also be assisting with various Canadian and United States income tax activities.

    Key Activities and Responsibilities


    • Review and manage all Canadian Indirect Tax Returns and compliance, including GST, PST, Federal Fuel Charge and Fuel Tax Returns and related remittances.
    • Review and manage all USA Indirect Tax Returns and compliance, including Multi-State Sales and Use Tax, Federal and State Excise and Fuel Taxes and other Local US Taxes and remittances.
    • Interpret and analyze Canadian and US tax laws to optimize the operational impact, provide tax planning and tax compliance guidance on tax law changes.
    • Respond to all Canadian and US Indirect Tax queries from internal business units, vendors and customers.
    • Responsible for administering US and CAD Sales Tax Systems to ensure compliance and reporting.
    • Develop processes and efficiencies for compliance with Indirect Tax filings.
    • Provide support to Supply Chain Management and Accounts Payable when assessing the appropriate tax codes in the Accounting System.
    • Respond to Canadian and US Indirect government tax queries and audits.
    • Oversee the reconciliation of general ledger accounts and journal entries related to indirect taxes.
    • Preparation and review of all monthly reasonability tests to ensure proper tax application and reporting.
    • Research and draft written technical advice in the form of technical memos or other technical deliverables, analysis and indirect tax treatment of various transactions.
    • Responsible for ensuring compliance for Regulation 105 and Part XIII withholding tax.
    • Review and preparation of annual T5, NR4, T4ANR, and other Indirect tax compliance forms and remittances.
    • Lead indirect tax recovery projects for the US and Canada
    • Preparing notices of objections for Indirect Tax dispute matters, and voluntary disclosures to address matters of non-compliance.
    • Assist Senior manager with transfer pricing compliance.
    • Assist Senior Manager with the preparation of US corporate tax provision and compliance with US corporate tax filings and payments.
    • Assist Senior Tax Manager with implementation or upgrades to ERP and Sales Tax Systems.
    • Assist Senior Tax Manager with the review of Contracts and other Agreements for the application of Indirect Taxes.
    • Assist Senior Tax Managers and Business Development Teams with ad hoc projects as they arise.
    Education, Skills and Experience


    • Bachelor's degree in accounting and a professional accounting designation (CPA; CA,CMA,CGA) would be preferable
    • Minimum 5 to 10 years of relevant experience with Canadian and US Indirect Taxes
    • Excellent knowledge of US multi-state sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST, and VAT across multiple international jurisdictions
    • Above-average knowledge of MS Office and SAP
    • Working knowledge of Endur (ETRM System) and Vertex or similar systems
    Hours

    Full Time, Monday – Friday

    As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results
