    DUTIES

    The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member or members to teach the following Adult Basic Education courses in Summer 2024. This workload may be divided between two candidates depending on their availability.

    MATH 0510, Advance Algebra

    Course description: Students study concepts that include basic algebra, systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, relations and functions, rational expressions and equations, radical expressions and equations, quadratic equations and functions, and trigonometry.

    MATH 0650, Provincial Foundations of Mathematics

    Course description: Students study a variety of math concepts including logical reasoning and set theory, permutations and combinations, probability, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomial and sinusoidal functions, and financial mathematics.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Master's degree in a relevant field required.
    • At least one degree in mathematics required.
    • Teaching Certificate, or Instructor's Diploma, or 5 years teaching experience plus evidence of engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
    • Experience teaching students whose educational, social, and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging required.
    • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching required.
    • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in ABE math courses preferred.
    • Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred.
    • Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred.
    • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred.
