  • Job SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Supervisor, Facility Attendant is to monitor and facilitate the daily operations of UVic's athletics and recreation facilities that encompass CARSA, Ian Stewart Rink, McKinnon Building, Centennial Stadium, and eight playing fields.


With an emphasis on providing excellent customer service, this position is responsible in providing services to a diverse range of students, staff, faculty and the broader community who access the facilities.

The position serves as a primary source of information for facility usage rules, and equipment lending/rentals and must possess sound knowledge of the recreation, athletic, community and special events taking place in the facilities.

Under general supervision of the Facility Supervisor, The Supervisor

  • Facilities Attendant supervises and coordinates the work of the Facility Equipment Room Attendants and Facility Assistants. This role also instructs and leads the Facility Attendant 1, ensuring compliance to work safety regulations, delegation of daily tasks and ensures that customer service and facility operational needs are met.
This position assists in the operation of the facilities, ensuring that they are safe, clean and properly setup. Provides support in the general maintenance of athletic and recreation equipment. Prepares, issues, repairs, and stows athletic and recreational equipment. Monitors and controls the use of facilities by authorized individuals according to bookings and facility use policy and procedure.

    Skills:
  • Basic keyboarding and data entry skills for customer service transactions;
  • Demonstrated ability to show professionalism to create positive cooperative working relationships and excellent customer service through the effective use of interpersonal skills in all interactions during high volume and demanding environments.
  • Ability to move, set up heavy equipment, as well as stand for extended periods of time. This role also requires sufficient strength for bending, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing and adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to direct the work of others to meet scheduled objectives, without close supervision.
  • Ability to embrace and positively adapt to change.
  • Comfortable working with motorized equipment
  • Ability to flex schedule according to operational requirements
  • Ability to multitask and think critically.
  • Punctuality, accuracy, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse setting.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Standard first aid
  • WHIMIS
  • Knowledge of sports and recreation facility and equipment needs.
  • Knowledge of best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion

Experience:


  • A minimum of three years supervising, scheduling, and training staff, preferably in a unionized environment
  • A minimum five years experience with customer service interactions
  • Experience with motorized equipment is beneficial.
