About the role


Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Regular Full-Time Manager, Market Research and Donor Insights to join our dynamic
Strategy Planning and Integration team.

The work of a Manager, Market Research and Donor Insights is integral to Canadian Blood Services' role as Canada's Lifeline.


In this role, you will lead the development of marketing research, analytics and reporting to deliver the analysis and insights required to inform marketing and recruitment strategies and programs using relevant data and insights.

While the predominant function is to support the marketing function within Canadian Blood Services, this role will maximize these skill sets within the broader Public Affairs division, for example, corporate reporting or delivering insights to inform the broader public affairs strategy.

The Manager utilizes a wide range of research tools, data analytics and reporting techniques to inform and ensure the strategic management and improvement of initiatives.


You will track, monitor, evaluate, and analyze a variety of data and information compiled and maintained within the data warehouse and other sources; lead the research strategy and agenda, develop a variety of regular and ad-hoc reporting tools, including detailed interpretation and analysis of data and research findings; and develop, implement, and manage data management systems.

You will contribute to the development of appropriate key performance indicators for our initiatives; monitor and track results against performance and highlight key insights and make recommendations for action.


Key responsibilities include:


Develop approaches and provide key analytical insights to support marketing, communications, or other public affairs strategy development, set and monitor the performance of programs, and analyze, interpret, and translate data into relevant actionable information:

  • Lead the development, planning and implementation of overall analytics strategy and approaches to enable the timely analysis of emerging trends, insights, or conclusions.
  • Generate insights from the performance trends and other data sources to inform marketing and public affairs strategies and initiatives and improved on outcomes.
  • Provide detailed analysis and interpretation of research findings and formulate actionable recommendations based on considered analyses.

Develop a research agenda and provide insight to inform and improve programs and/or strategies:

  • Lead the development of a research agenda, projects, and investigations to discover and develop insights to inform and improve the targeting, messaging or performance of marketing and public affairs strategies and programs.
  • Manage the engagement of external resources such as research firms and organizations and to support research and analytical activities.
  • Manage the relationship with external research vendors for marketing and public affairs initiatives such as donor and public opinion polling, advertising and brand health tracking and evaluation, creative and messaging testing, attitudes, behaviours, motivations, and key issues.

Develop, implement, and manage data management systems:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems to effectively manage and analyze different types of data e.g., donor information (demographics, donation type,) population demographics and marketplace research.
  • Ensure data from a range of sources, e.g., Data Warehouse, Stats Canada, external research sources and internal databases, is effectively managed and is accessible and understandable.
  • Utilize appropriate software tools e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Cognos, Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and ESS, to develop systems to manage and analyze data and provide reports to internal and external customers.

Education, Training and Experience:


  • Postsecondary level education in a relevant quantitative discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably an Undergraduate Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Mathematics or Statistics.
  • A minimum of 8 years of applied research experience, using advanced statistical methods and principles.
  • Experience working with behavioural science methodology.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing large datasets and conducting statistical analyses.
  • Experience in marketing research, data mining and data manage
