    GFL Ottawa is looking for a Financial operations analyst


    As a Financial Operations Analyst, you will work at the intersection of Finance, IT and Operations to support business decision-making, operational efficiencies and elements of financial reporting.

    You will work closely with the Regional Director to learn about the business and its operations, to become well-versed in measuring operational performance, standardize business processes, identify and implement identifying opportunities for operational improvement with a focus on cost control, budgeting / forecasting / month end reporting and capital investments.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Consolidate assigned business units' operational and financial data for reporting and analysis.

    Partner with all key staff to provide operational data to assist in financial reporting and justification of operational decisions.


    Work with IT and Operations to ensure our IT tools and applications are implemented and operated effectively within the region to gather and report data and financials.


    Develop performance measurements, utilizing metrics to identify performance trends, outliers, leading to insights and causal factors, relating to revenue, volume, pricing and margin analysis, operational and safety performance.

    Work across a mix of projects involving sales, operations, fleet and facility management.


    Champion all systems and processes changes within the region to assist with adoption and implementation of all changes, including hands-on training.


    Perform detailed analysis and investigations to understand root causes and be prepared to offer recommendations and help to implement them.

    Assist the Director with cost control, cost reviews and approvals as directed.

    Assist the Director with forecasting and budgeting as required.

    Prepare AFEs (Authorization For Expenditure) relating to capital projects.

    Support the operational team as required on a day-to-day basis.

    Other tasks as assigned.


    Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
    2-4 years of operations and/or financial analysis experience required

    Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Business.


    Advanced skills with proficiency with MS Excel including pivot tables, experience with SQL, IBM Cognos/TM1 or similar BI/Analytic tools is an advantage.

    Alphanumeric WPM 80+ is required with accuracy.

    Strong attention to detail is vital, ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

    Team player that readily adapts to rapid changes in priorities and assignments.

    Strong business acumen and the ability to build trusted relationships with business leaders.

    Ability to communicate findings and recommendations concisely.


    Has interacted with senior management teams, preparing management-level presentations and actively participating in the presentation of results and strategic priorities and financial plans.

    Travel within Ontario and overtime is required occasionally.
