Humane Society London & Middlesex is a non-profit charitable organization that improves the lives of animals in our community by providing temporary shelter and appropriate new families for unwanted, abandoned, abused or neglected animals.


We are currently hiring to fill a Full-Time Community Support Representative/Reception position on our team. This position is to start as a 6-month contract.

The goal is to make our guests feel comfortable and valued on our premises.


Responsibilities

  • Keep an organized working space stocked with necessary materials (pens, paper, clipboards etc.,)
  • Greet and welcome guests coming into the shelter for reasons related to owner surrenders and animal adoptions (cats, dogs and small animals).
  • Accept donations and place in donation bin/sort donations.
  • Comfortable learning database software programs and POS systems
  • Receive letters and packages and redistribute them to the appropriate areas.
  • Keep updated records and or/files
  • Responsible for performing duties in a professional, proactive manner in order to achieve and maintain good public relations and excellent customer service.
  • Must use discretion and good judgment at all times and ensure adherence to the shelter code of conduct.
  • Adhere to all shelter policies and protocols.
  • Closely and regularly communicate with the Animal Health and Services Manager and Adoptions Team.
  • Immediately report all incidents of injury, property damage, absence of or failure of a protective device and/or equipment to the supervisor.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months previous customer service experience (experience in a shelter or veterinary clinic would be an asset).
  • Knowledge of a variety of animals, animal behaviour and their care requirements, ideally in a shelter environment is an asset.
  • Exceptional computer skills with regard to social media.
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to share information and provide feedback.
  • Selfstarter who takes initiative and is able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Must be a team player with proven leadership skills and customer service experience.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and adapt to change using strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must not have allergies limiting or affecting exposure to animals.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's G level license and reliable transportation with the ability to travel occasionally.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and an open availability.
  • Must be able to work with other staff, volunteers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Must have a genuine interest in and concern for the overall wellbeing of animals and demonstrate empathy and compassion for shelter animals.

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Every Weekend
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call
