Job Purpose:


Reporting to the Manager, Public Advocacy and Engagement, the Lead, Media & Advocacy plays a key role in shaping World Vision's brand story by positioning our work with external audiences, including media, supporters and influencers.


This leader will support development of integrated communications strategies and consider paid, earned, owned and shared channels to reach Canadians and stakeholders with impactful stories about our work to serve the most vulnerable children in the world.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Leverage exceptional creative, interpersonal, project management and writing skills to achieve effective brand storytelling that will position World Vision as a real and raw, impactdriven organization connecting hearts and minds to our mission in a digital environment.
  • Execute integrated communications strategies across paid, earned, owned and shared channels in collaboration with the strategic communications team and other stakeholders.
  • Advise the Manager, Public Engagement, on media playbook strategy and proactively support the identification of target national, provincial and local media opportunities to position World Vision's work.
  • Lead strategy to develop unique story ideas, media exclusives and opinion editorials, nimble quotes, messaging and media briefs.
  • Oversee media relations for the President's office and create opportunities to drive executive thought leadership; oversee and develop briefing documents and brief the President and CEO.
  • Working with various internal stakeholders, including the wider global partnership, to proactively create opportunities to position World Vision spokespersons to secure greater share of voice and build brand reputation.
  • Make strategic recommendations regarding media and advocacy mobilization including unique storytelling approaches.
  • Research and report opportunities such as our responses to emergencies and our work on key grants with donors and supporters while utilizing digital outputs.
  • Provide and support recommendations concerning emergency and issues response and reactive statements and messaging.
  • Recommend internal/staff communications regarding external initiatives.
  • Support monitoring and measurement of advocacy communications and media relations activities and assist in reviewing and editing reports.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism or other PR and Social Media related disciplines.
  • 57 years in a corporate, agency and/or NGO communications role with proven experience contributing to integrated communications strategies.
  • Must have solid media relations and relationship building skills; thorough understanding of media, its likely interests and expectations.
  • Excellent writing skills. Must be able to provide strong and compelling writing samples.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work with partners collaboratively.
  • A passion and drive to succeed with an ability to challenge the status quo and bring creative ideas to fruition.
  • Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand highly technical information and make it more digestible for external audiences.
  • High commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to track and measure integration communications programs/campaigns performance and strong reporting skills.
  • Proven ability to manage issues and develop reactive statements.
  • Exceptional timemanagement and organizational skills, with the ability to work with a team as well as independently.
  • Understanding of media monitoring tools a plus.
  • Knowledge of agile methodology and working environments a plus.
