Position Overview:
Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises the work of one Fire Systems Specialist, with full responsibility for interviewing and selection, orientation and training, direction and guidance, and performance management
- Works with the leadership team and divisional staff to establish Kitchener Fire Department (KFD) technology priorities
- Manages fire systems projects, managing all phases of the project life cycle: initiation, planning, execution, controlling and closing
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to identify prioritize and rank new modules, upgrades and functionality to fire specific systems
- Coordinates and manages the implementation of new technologies in partnership with IT, the Region of Waterloo, and thirdparty solution providers to improve operational efficiencies and improve safety for the community and fire personnel
- Oversees and supports and acts as liaison for fire technology systems, including regional voice radio
- Works with Corporate IT staff and Fire Systems Specialist to support PeopleSoft, Flint Vehicle Management, Amanda, SAP, etc.
- Provides advice to, and oversees technology service provision for KFD dispatch clients
- Works with Fire Systems Specialist, IT staff and GIS staff to establish solutions to systems issues, configuration requirements and upgrades
- Manages relationships, contracts and service provisions with various stakeholders
- Makes recommendations to the Senior Leadership team on how to allocate technology resources to deliver services
- Participates as a Fire department representative on various corporate and external committees
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum 3 year Degree/Diploma in a related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration) or equivalency of a minimum 4 years' fire department related experience
- Must have broad working experience with technology, including experience managing and supporting integrated business systems, networks, radio systems and mobile systems
- Must have an understanding of how system integration and interfaces work, mirror tables, and impacts of integration points
- Must have an understanding of database concepts, triggers, scripts and views, and data modelling
Must be available to provide on-call and after-hours assistance to ensure critical systems are functioning
