**1.0 Central Designated Early Childhood Educator

**General Information: The following full-time position will be available effective September 1, 2023, to June 24, 2024,

well as demonstrated leadership qualities.


Position

Qualifications

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Current Permanent DECE with Lakehead Public Schools.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the kindergarten program
  • School or systemlevel leadership experience is considered an asset.

Desirable Qualities/Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise as an exemplary employee; specifically in the area of Kindergarten
Programming;

  • Knowledge of Ministry Education standards (The Kindergarten Program and Addendum,
How Does Learning Happen, etc.);

  • High degree of competency and demonstrated leadership in the kindergarten program
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in current practice to support success for all students

including;

  • Sound skills screening
  • Science of Reading assessments and programming;
  • Early math, including mathology and Mathup;
- current strategies to support students identified with special education needs and

unique learner profiles;

  • Experience planning and implementing professional development activities with educators
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships to work collaboratively and network with other
educators and community partners;

  • Willingness to learn new content, pedagogy and technologies;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision as a member of a team;
  • Ability to travel between school sites.

The Role
The Early Childhood Educator selected to be a member of the Lakehead Public School
multidisciplinary Student Support Team will work as a member of the Board's Special Education.

Department and will:

  • Work cooperatively with the Special Education Officer and Multidisciplinary Student Support
Team to address a range of unique and challenging student needs;

  • Provide ongoing training and support of kindergarten programming with schools;
  • Support DECEs and other educators in responding to student needs;
  • Establish, maintain and encourage community partnerships that promote and support student
learning, achievement and well-being;

  • Act as a system resource person at the elementary level;
  • Coordinate and facilitate training for DECEs and other educators;
  • Collaborate with educators and board/community partners to support and promote positive
student behavior, engagement and well-being;

  • Coordinate and deliver professional development, including "at the elbow" support for school
educator teams as required;

  • Support the implementation of student achievement initiatives with an emphasis on Inquiry
learning, universal design for learning and early reading;

  • Support the creation of positive and inclusive learning environments that support student
well-being and maximize student learning outcomes;

  • Work 7 hours per day between the hours of 8 AM and 4:30 PM (lieu time accrued as necessary)
  • Other duties as assigned.
