Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Services, Seniors Services the Adult Day Centre, Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with seniors who are physically frail and/or have Alzheimer Disease or related dementia and adults with disabilities at Dixon Hall.


REQUIREMENTS

  • This position may be funded by Canada Summer Jobs
  • As per Canada Summer Jobs, these are mandatory requirements
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the delivery of programs to participants.
  • Assist in planning, Implementing, monitoring and evaluating Day Program activities and meals.
  • Assist and escort clients on agency transportation vehicles.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living such as toileting, transferring or eating functioning.
  • Maintaining accurate client documentation and records.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, reporting any improvements needed or issues that arise.
  • Work collaboratively with the supervisor, Dixon Hall staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Operate in an effective, efficient and client focused manner to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events.
  • Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss individual, team and program effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, postsecondary education in Social Work, Gerontology, or another related program.
  • Relevant work experience (placement opportunities included) in similar nonprofit environments is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of working with seniors who are physically frail and/or have Alzheimer Disease or related dementia, and adults with disabilities.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Dependable, punctual and flexible.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher) and database management.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • A second language is an asset.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have uptodate vaccinations against COVID19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
