The Organizations

  • The Sisters of the Precious Blood _is part of an international community of Catholic Sisters who live and work around the world. In Canada, the 42 Sisters reside and work in Hamilton, London and Calgary and for more than 150 years have produced altar breads for the Church. The production facility at their Hamilton monastery has evolved to be fully automated with a team of dedicated and loyal staff. Also onsite is an infirmary that employs Nurses and PSWs to care for the aging Sisters.
  • Canadian Religious Stewardship_ (CRS), the Employer, is a notforprofit charitable organization established by Catholic Religious Institutes from across Canada. CRS is assisting the Sisters of the Precious Blood congregation with their ongoing needs.

The Position


The Human Resources and Operations Coordinator will work on-site at the Hamilton production facility, providing HR guidance and support to the employees and the Sisters.


Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the implementation and administration of HR programs and policies;
  • Address employee relations issues, providing guidance and support to staff and Sisters in conflict resolution and disciplinary matters;
  • Oversee new hire recruitment for hourly workforce, including but not limited to updating job descriptions, job postings, conducting interviews, preparing offer letters while observing internal processes;
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, including employment contracts, employment documents, annual performance reviews, and benefits information;
  • Prepare and process biweekly payroll for hourly employees, administer time and attendance functions, including inputting new hires, updating employee status, managing wage adjustments, handling terminations, and submitting Records of Employment (ROE);
  • Administer group benefits for employees, serving as the primary contact for employees, plan vendors, and thirdparty administrators;
  • Ensure WCB and WSIB compliance and manage injury reporting, and safe return to work processes effectively;
  • Stay informed on HR trends, best practices, and legal updates to advise the Sisters and ensure organizational compliance;
  • Provide operational support to the site and other ad hoc projects for CRS as required.

Requirements:


  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Human Resources;
  • HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CHRL) is preferred;
  • Knowledge and skills in computerized software packages and programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentations (e.g. Microsoft Office, PowerPoint);
  • Experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems (e.g., Dayforce formerly Ceridian) is preferred;
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to multitask and prioritize work items;
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication and interpersonal skills to respond to a variety of inquiries, both verbally and in writing;
  • Solid ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Must have excellent knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, WCB Act, Human Rights Code, and other similar Canadian legislative requirements;
  • Physically fit to perform duties;
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check.

Reporting


While the Coordinator will report to the Director of Strategic Implementation, Canadian Religious Stewardship, the Coordinator will be expected to work in very close collaboration on a daily basis with the Sisters of the Precious Blood Leadership Team.
