$26.44/hourly

Position Description Summary:

The Crisis Intervention Worker will provide women and children in need of safety with accommodation, crisis support and guidance.

The Crisis Intervention Worker will work as a member of a professional team contributing to the empowerment of women seeking our services while facilitating educational and self-healing groups to participants.

The Crisis Intervention Workers will also work cohesively with other departments of the YWCA, as well as community organizations and agencies.


REPORTING LINE:
The Crisis Intervention Worker reports directly to the Team Lead and the Operation Manager.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) Evaluate the need of each individual seeking space to ensure they meet program mandates.

b) Assess, intervene and provide support during crisis situations (e.g., suicide intervention, mental health events and medical distress, etc.)

c) Determine and provide immediate needs (e.g., food, shelter, clothing, hygiene, medical).

d) Admit and orientate clients to shelter, reviewing guidelines and completing pertinent documents and database entry.

e) Provide ongoing crisis support, referrals, advocacy and education surrounding domestic violence.

f) Provide information and referrals to Harbour House School, Child Care and Support Services participants as applicable.

g) Work as a team member to enhance the quality of services provided. Provide effective communication with clients and colleagues to maintain program objectives.

h) Produce effective and detailed documentation of incidents and interactions.

i) Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Attributes:


  • Sound judgment and decisionmaking skills.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to collaborate well as a team player.

Education and Experience:

2-Year Diploma in Human Services or other industry related discipline OR - 2 Years' experience
