    What you'll do:

    Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Payroll Administrator will be responsible for performing the Payroll function of the organization, including various aspects of Benefits Administration.

    Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Provide excellent Guest Service to Team Members by promptly addressing their payroll inquiries and concerns.
  • Assist in the completion of necessary paperwork for new Team Members, ensuring all required documents are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Assist with the administration of Team Member benefits, disability claims, and leaves of absence as directed by the Human Resources Manager.
  • Ensure accurate processing of payroll data, including calculating wages, deductions, and taxes.
  • Compile, verify, and prepare payroll reports and statistics for Team Leader review.
  • Monitor vacation, attendance, sick leave, and banked time hours.
  • Process bonuses, salary adjustments, and other taxable benefits in accordance with company policies and relevant legislation.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with provincial and federal payroll laws, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Reconcile recurring payroll and benefits GL accounts and statements.
  • This role requires a high level of confidentiality, in alignment with Heritage Co-op's Values, Vision, and Mission as the person will handle sensitive information, including payroll data and personal details. Therefore, they must maintain confidentiality and handle information in a discreet and professional manner to protect Team Member privacy and comply with data protection regulations.

    Who you are:

  • You have Grade 12 or equivalent with a preference for post-secondary education. Sound understanding of Federal/Provincial Payroll and Employment legislations is considered an asset
  • You have strong computer and technical background, including effective working skills of the Microsoft suite
  • You are able to work independently or as part of a Team
  • Previous experience in payroll processing or a related field is often preferred. Candidates with prior experience using payroll software and familiarity with payroll processing best practices are highly desirable. Experience with relevant accounting or bookkeeping tasks may also be beneficial
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • Proven effective communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics is necessary for calculating wages, taxes, and deductions accurately
