ASAP Permanent Part-time - Recreation Assistant _(6 shifts / per pay period) days TBC_
Key Accountability:
Under the direction of the Life Enrichment & Programs Manager, participates in planning, implementation and evaluation of the recreation programs in order to meet physical, cultural, social, spiritual and intellectual needs of the residents.
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
- Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program
Staff Development
- Attends inservice education in order to keep informed of current trends in resident care practices.
- Participates actively in the orientation program.
- Develops and upgrades his/her knowledge and skills in recreation programming.
Resident Care
- Plans, organizes, and implements meaningful recreation programs within the home to meet residents' needs.
- Promotes resident awareness and participation in leisure and recreation activities.
- Maintains appropriate department records including attendance, residents' progress notes, assessments, care plans, charting, program evaluations, audits, and surveys.
- Participates in care conferences, presenting the recreation department's assessments and goals, and contributing to the resident's care plan.
Teamwork and Communication
- Maintains an ongoing effective communication within the recreation department and with other departments as appropriate
- Works with family members, volunteers, and community groups to implement activities and programs that enrich the daily lives of residents.
Safety
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in inservices and fire drills.
Required Qualifications:
- Holds a 2year community college diploma from a recognized postsecondary school in Recreation/Activation/Gerontology or related discipline
- Certificate of participation in a Food Handler program offered by the Board of Health preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience facilitating a variety of programs in a seniors' environment is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to converse both orally and written in English is essential.
- A second language is an asset.
- Related experience in long term care setting preferred.
- Knowledge of Point Click Care and Activity Pro is an asset.
