Purpose and General Description:
_**Are you passionate about conserving some of Quebec's most important natural spaces? Do you want to have a positive, lasting impact on nature? Are you looking for a well-rounded position to kick-start your conservation career with hands-on experience? We want to hear from you

The geomatics intern will be involved in mapping, managing the geographic database and visiting one of CNC's protected properties.

This internship will give the student the opportunity to gain hands-on geomatics experience in the field of private land conservation, as well as deepen his or her knowledge of habitats and rare species in southern Quebec.

Duties and Responsibilities:
_**Under the supervision of the coordinator and the geomatics technician, the intern will have the following responsibilities:
  • Telecommuting or hybrid mode at the office (90%)
  • Prepare static maps for the conservation team;
  • Maintain web mapping tools (web map, Survey 123 form, Field Maps);
  • Process and standardize data collected in the field;
  • Support the improvement of field collection tools;
  • Calculate statistics related to the natural environments present on some of the properties protected by CNC;
  • Prepare data to be shared with NCC partners.
  • Field (10%)
  • Collect field data for stewardship and acquisition projects;
  • Provide support in various simple tasks to assist field coordinators and project managers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Attributes:
_**This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills and traits:
  • Studies in geomatics with a profile in cartography (with 2 years of training completed),
  • Strong interest in geospatial technologies;
  • Good knowledge of ArcGIS tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Survey 123, etc);
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
  • Ability to use standard software (Word, Excel, Power Point);

Terms of Employment:
_**- Subject to funding, this is a 16 week position from May 6, 2024, until August 23, 2024;

  • Compensation: $20.00/hour;
  • Evening and weekend work may be required but is infrequent.
