Job Summary:


A member of the Admissions and Recruitment team in Enrolment Services, the Indigenous Community Program Advisor reports to the Associate Director, Partnerships and Outreach, Branches and works with multiple McGill faculties, departments, recruiters, and students.

The incumbent will work with Indigenous undergraduate students with the goal of increasing access to graduate programs and career readiness for them.

The Indigenous Community Program Advisor contributes to the planning and execution of two complementary programs for Indigenous students:
Pick Your Path (PYP) and Indigenous Mentorship and Paid Research Experience for Summer Students (IMPRESS). The Indigenous Community Program Advisor establishes connections with Indigenous students, communities, and partners to consult and evaluate these programs.

The Indigenous Community Program Advisor connects with McGill faculties, departments, and student groups to facilitate the implementation of said programs.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with Indigenous McGill undergraduate students, McGill faculty, staff, and student groups by promoting and informing them about the PYP and IMPRESS programs.
  • Liaise with other universities to promote and recruit Indigenous undergraduate students to the PYP and IMPRESS programs.
  • Develop the PYP and the IMPRESS programs for undergraduate students, in collaboration with researchers, internal and external partners, including faculty, staff, and student groups; of importance is the collaboration with the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE), the Indigenous Studies and Community Engagement Initiative (ISCEI), and the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) offices.
  • Oversee logistics of facilitating the PYP and IMPRESS programs, including liaising with guest speakers and workshop facilitators, recruiting McGill Indigenous students for mentorship positions, scheduling events and activities.
  • Develop the budget plan, and oversee the reporting, and administration of the budget in accordance with McGill procedures and policies.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of the PYP and IMPRESS programs by evaluating the activities in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for submitting and presenting a yearly report on these programs to key stakeholders, as well as keeping detailed notes on each program to build a report for the Ministère de l'Éducation et Ministère de l'Enseignement (MEES).
  • Research best practices and new emerging tools to promote access to education and career readiness and incorporate them in the programs.
  • In collaboration with Recruitment staff and graphic designers, contribute to the content, design, development, and proofing of digital media and print advertising materials to effectively communicate with target audiences.
  • Responsible for ensuring and assure appropriate inclusion of and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures in all programs' activities.
