Hand and Upper Limb Centre

In a supportive learning environment, the OTA/PTA will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with clinicians in hand therapy as well as outpatient physiotherapy, to develop and strengthen the OTA/PTA role specifically pertaining to patient care activities.

The OTA/PTA will incorporate a broad range of skills guided by sound clinical judgment and evidence-based practice guidelines.


Essential Qualifications

  • Current Physiotherapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant diploma or dual OTA/PTA diploma from a recognized program that includes a placement component in each discipline
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physical and cognitive disabilities and their potential impact on task performance
  • Experience with the implementation of occupational therapy and physiotherapy programs, such as functional mobility retraining, assisting with implementing PROM/AROM exercises, strengthening programs and assisting with the fabrication of assistive devices.
  • Experience with neuromuscular and muscular electrical stimulation (NMES)
  • Experience with ultrasound therapy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with patients, family, volunteers and other members of the care team
  • Able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position (eg. able to assist therapist in physical treatment techniques)
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems
  • Exceptional observational skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and time management, to manage a complex inventory of supplies and to support processes related to infection control practices.
  • Flexibility in adapting to varying case load needs
  • Able to work independently and be selfdirected

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Clinical experience and knowledge with musculoskeletal conditions
  • Demonstrated initiative with program development/improvement
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in research and program evaluation

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
