    ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION


    ByWard Clinic Management (BCM), formerly the University of Ottawa Health Services (UOHS), offers a comprehensive range of services to the University of Ottawa students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

    BCM operates busy clinics open to University of Ottawa students, faculty and staff, other patients registered to a BCM family physician as well as members of the general public.

    JOB SUMMARY


    Reporting to the nurse Team Lead, the Clinical Assistant is to provide direct patient care in a clinical setting and perform work as required under the supervision of a registered nurse.


    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    Coordinate patient flow through the clinic – waiting room, exam room.

    Triage patients for their appointment as per the triage protocol.

    Measure vital signs on each patient as per Triage Guidelines and record in electronic medical record.

    Maintain electronic medical records and document accurately as per Triage Guidelines.

    Clean and sterilize materials and instruments following instrument reprocessing standards and guidelines.

    Prepare examination rooms; select, set up and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations and procedures.

    Work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and reception staff to promote efficient clinic functioning and quality of patient experience.

    Participate in team and staff meetings as requested.

    Participate in staff development programs and promote team cohesiveness.


    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    Completion of a college program or other specialized courses for medical administration required or a combination of training and experience

    Previous experience as a health care aide in a healthcare environment.

    Current First Aid and CPR certifications.

    Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

    Bilingual (French and English) is a must.

    Computer literacy:
    MS Word, Outlook, EMR and Internet.

    Excellent communication and customer service skills.

    All staff are expected to work in parallel with the organization's confidentiality agreement.

    As a member of our team, you are responsible for bringing issues that affect the smooth operation of the organization, to the attention of your immediate supervisor.

    It is your responsibility to be up to date with all organizational communication.

    RELATIONSHIPS CONTACTS (with whom the incumbent comes into regular contact)

    Internally:
    Successful relationships with administration and management within all divisions.

    Externally:
    Successful relationships with patients, representatives, and other clients that present themselves via telephone or in writing. There are no supervisory responsibilities related to this role.

    REPORTING STRUCTURE (To whom the incumbent reports to for different aspects of their job). The incumbent reports to the Nurse Team Lead.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    The clinics are open between 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-12pm on weekends. Must be available to work various shifts between those times.

    Employee must be fully vaccinated (2 doses) against the Covid-19 virus prior to the commencement of employment.
