    Reporting to the Senior Lead, Environment, the Lead, Environment is responsible for overseeing and implementing closure activities at one of Teck's closed sites, Bullmoose mine, located in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The role will be based at Cardinal River mine, in Hinton, Alberta, with periodic travel required to the Bullmoose site and Tumbler Ridge to oversee projects, or complete inspections. This role will focus on coordinating, onsite supervision, and completing care and maintenance activities associated with the active closure phase to ensure compliance to permits and environmental performance.

    To be successful, we are looking for a self-motivated team player with excellent leadership, consultation, and facilitation abilities; someone with the ability to manage and pivot when needed with challenging priorities. This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. This role requires a critical thinker with exceptional analytical, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.

    Responsibilities:

    • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
    • Supervise site personnel and oversee programs for maintenance, monitoring and water treatment and conduct site facility inspections
    • Maintain all management system elements such as the HSEC Obligations Register, Environment Risk Register, Controlled Document Libraries
    • Ensure proper controls, management, and oversight of expenditures
    • Conduct or assist with regulatory, public, and First Nations consultations and negotiations
    • Manage the preparation of long-term cost estimates for Decommissioning and Reclamation Provision liability accounting, annual and project-specific detailed budgets and provide effective cost control related to the sites
    • Participate in the development of mine emergency response plans and emergency planning exercises
    • Review reports and prepare for regulatory submissions
    • Support Cardinal River mine on environmental closure

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Engineering or Science; an environmental related field is preferred
    • Minimum three years' experience providing technical direction on environmental compliance, risks and challenges associated with resource management
    • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations
    • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple projects and budgets
    • Experience managing technically diverse employees, contractors, and consultants
    • Hold a professional designation and meet the British Columbia provincial requirements of a qualified professional for applicable programs is an asset

    Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000

    The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

    Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
