General Description
Responsible and accountable for the safety and protection of life and property within the University community. Patrols the campus grounds and buildings for maximum security visibility towards prevention, observation, and enforcement of laws and regulations.


Representative Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patrol University properties to detect and prevent signs of intrusion and ensure the security of physical properties.
  • Patrol the University campus, maintain a visible security presence, and identify high securityrisk locations.
  • Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity on campus.
  • Conduct investigations vigilantly ensuring all necessary followups are completed.
  • Ensure the safety of all persons and property on University property.
  • Act as a University ambassador to campus visitors and members of the community.
  • Escort people and property to desired destinations when money, documents or safety of property or persons are a concern.
  • Interview persons in order to obtain information or facts pertaining to incidents on campus.
  • Review closedcircuit television footage related to investigations.
  • Enforce criminal and provincial statutes, city bylaws, and University regulations.
  • Identify and resolve safety and security issues on campus.
  • Review campus establishments to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Evaluate complaint and emergencyrequest information to determine response requirements.
  • Respond to campus emergencies and provide assistance to offcampus emergency and police services.
  • Relay complaint and emergencyrequest information to appropriate agency dispatchers.
  • Monitor campus traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures.
  • Issue citations or warnings to violators of motor vehicle ordinances.
  • Assist with the containment and preservation of crime scenes and ensure evidence is contained and properly recorded.
  • Determine the extent of personal injuries and property damage when incidents occur.
  • Identify and assist victims and witnesses from campus incidents.
  • Prepare campus incident reports and other court documentation.
  • Work with members of the University community to determine the community's safety concerns.
  • Assist the campus community in the development and implementation of various campus security projects by acting as a resource and making recommendations to achieve improved safety and reduction in crime on campus.
  • Embrace the diverse demographic nature of the University, and maintain awareness of the concerns of minority groups.
  • Complete various campus security assignments including, but not limited to, traffic and crowd control.
  • Testify in court to present evidence.
  • Receive emergency and nonemergency calls for service.
  • Prioritize calls and dispatch the appropriate security personnel to investigate calls.
  • Interact with callers who may be hysterical, angry, irrational or inebriated.
  • Relay pertinent information in a factual and concise manner.
  • Monitor security cameras, fire, and intrusion alarms and dispatch security personnel accordingly.
  • Receive, record, and service all incoming calls from officers, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Coordinate with a variety of internal and external services to resolve situations.
  • Train new security personnel on procedures.
  • Update, verify, and maintain information in a variety of databases and spreadsheets.
  • Receive and direct complaints to the appropriate department or agency.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Police Foundations Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Possess a current and valid Ontario Association Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate
    including Medical Package (Hearing and Vision Requirements) or Ontario Police College Recruit Training Certificate. You MUST have the OACP Certificate before the interview date.
  • Have a current certification in First Aid & CPR Level C.
  • Possess a valid driver's licence with no more than six accumulated demerit points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges.
  • Pass a security clearance as well as a background investigation, credit and reference checks.
  • Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard for your own safety and the safety of members of the public.
  • Strong keyboarding and computer skills.
  • Be of good moral character
