- Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces
- Processes include gas tungsten arc (TIG or GTAW), gas metal arc (MIG or GMAW), flux-cored arc (FAW), plasma arc (PAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), and oxy-acetylene (OAW);
- Weld components in flat, vertical, horizontal or overhead positions;
- Setting up and operating machinery such as brake presses, shears, plasma cutters, oxy-fuel cutting torches, grinders and drills to bend, punch, cut and form metal components;
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and schematics;
- Position and secure workpieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools. Utilize material handling, rigging, hoisting and lifting equipment to move completed assemblies safely;
- Clean or degrease parts
- Cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes
- Mix and apply protective coatings
- Complete required paperwork, as required.
- College diploma in Welding and Fabrication technician or equivalent.
- Minimum 5-10 years experience in Welding and Fitting trade.
- Canadian Welding Bureau certification for welding in all positions is required.
- Experience fitting and welding of fabricated components for heavy equipment
- Familiarity with the use of jigs & fixtures.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, schematics.
- Good communication skills
