Job Scope:


Reporting to the Head of Preparatory Studies, Foundation Visual Art & Design Teaching Assistants work directly with the Program Manager and in support of the instructors.

Teaching Assistants provide professional, knowledgeable, and courteous front-line educational help to the VFS students within the program.

They prepare materials and rooms for classes, facilitate and supervise equipment use, work with small groups of students on special projects, and may assist students in utilizing a variety of instructional resources.

They may be asked to lead review workshops after class to help students stay on track.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Assist and support Instructors in the delivery of course curriculum within the assigned program discipline.
  • Attend lectures given by the instructors whom they are assisting.
  • Provide general class preparation assistance to Instructor including photocopying of course materials and assist with development of course materials when appropriate.
  • Assist the Instructors with evaluating and marking student assignments based clear criteria set out by Instructors and the department???,?s policies and procedures.
  • Connect students with the appropriate Instructors or Program Administration for assistance when it is appropriate.
  • Assist and inform students of the procedures for completing and submitting class work.
  • Troubleshoot any technical problems students are encountering and act as a liaison between students and the IT department when required.
  • Perform other duties as required by the department.

Job Qualifications:


  • A degree, diploma, and/or certificate from a recognized postsecondary institution or a VFS graduate.
  • Examples of work that show high proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects and Maya.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and initiative with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Highly organized team player with a flexible approach and works well under pressure.
  • Ability to present a professional and positive image and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
