Description

The Plant Manager is the key production leader within the plant and an integral part of the leadership team across Atlantic's Ontario Corrugated Division.

This role requires a player-coach with excellent leadership and communication skills, expert knowledge of operations, labor relations and strength in change management and culture leadership.

Lead operational excellence and drive company core values at the site level.


The Plant Manager is directly responsible for overseeing safety, quality, production, maintenance, and shipping activities through direct leadership of production staff.

They will provide consistent oversight and direction for the corrugated, converting, shipping operations, and maintenance in a corrugated plant, while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality of product.


This role reports to the VP, Operations Corrugated

Duties:


  • Ensure the plant operates under Environmental, health and safety company policy and city/municipal laws and regulations.
  • Oversee manufacturing, including safety, quality, throughput, cost, waste control, maintenance, inventories control and meet budgeted production metrics.
  • Continuously audit and analyze processes, plans, and strategies to drive improvements that will improve safety, quality, cost, production output and efficiency, and overall compliance of policies.
  • Maintain and support positive labor relations and drive employee engagement
  • Direct production, shipping, and maintenance of the Plant to ensure the customer receives their product on time and in full, driving a better customer experience everyday
Human resources, including workforce engagement, diversity, recruiting and hiring, employee and leadership development and employee labor relations

  • Systematically review financial and efficiency performance of the plant to recommend to management opportunities for growth, automation and cost savings through capital improvement projects
  • Review production costs and product quality, and modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of plant.
  • Financial management, including establishing and managing budgets and compliance with financial controls
  • Promote the quality system by ensuring all employees are aware of and abide by 0the company quality, food safety and GMP policies
  • Backup for the position is the Plant Manager from alternate plants when required or as designated by the VP, Operations Corrugated. Shortterm or immediate back up for this position is provided by the onsite Operations Manager.
  • To perform other tasks or jobs as need or required by the Company

Education:


  • Post graduate education degree/diploma in related engineering or business studies

Essential Skills/Qualifications:


  • 510 years manager experience in manufacturing
  • Solid experience and leadership in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to compile reports and present at meetings
  • Ability to liaise with all levels of management and employees
  • Personally involved with all events and decisions

Working Conditions:


  • Works in well lit, climatecontrolled office environment
  • Exposed to dust, noise, heat and humidity when in plant

Physical Demands:


  • Moderate mental concentration for computer work, to produce required reports and recommendations
