Proudly serving a community of approximately 50,000 students in the City of Hamilton and surrounding area, HWDSB operates across 84 elementary schools, 13 secondary schools and 1 Adult Learning Centre, in addition to providing support and service to approximately 8,800 staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ministry Requirements as outlined in The Education Act

Intermediate/Senior Qualifications


KEY COMPETENCIES:

Spec Ed Part 1 (preferred)

Guidance and Career Education Part 1 (preferred)


Experience or comfort teaching in an Alt Ed setting with a timetable that includes, but is not limited to, college and workplace level math and college and workplace level science.

Successful teaching experience in area(s) of System Alt Ed (SAE), Safe Schools (Gateway), ECPP/Section classrooms.

Comfort and experience teaching students who are struggling with mental health issues that require intensive supports.

Up-to-date First Aid certification

Experience working with students with complex medical needs

Experience working with students in-risk

Experience creating trauma sensitive classrooms and knowledge of trauma sensitive teaching practice

Ability to integrate cross curricular expectations in a project-based learning environment.

Knowledge and comfort using D2L/HUB/MS Teams

Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to engage wrap-around supports for students
