Wages:

  • Commensurate with Education and ExperienceReporting to the Employee Wellness Manager, the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Advisor acts as the main liaison to all Good Samaritan OHS committees and managers. OH&S provides monitors workplace activities to promote and ensure employee compliance with applicable safety regulations, expert advice on health and safety related matters.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Promotes safe work behaviors by assisting in development of safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Assists and guides Good Samaritan and its managers in understanding relevant OHS legislation and communicates the importance of the employer's due diligence
  • Evaluates employee concerns while they are participating in a return to work plan
  • Evaluates work environments to identify and assess potential or existing hazards
  • Develops appropriate hazard control measures through reviews of incident reports, site inspections, internal audits, and other loss prevention tools
  • Assists Good Samaritan in establishing OHS committees and provides advice to those committees on an as needed
  • Collaborates with provincial authorities, regional safety associations, and regional health authorities to promote safe and healthy initiatives to benefit all Good Samaritan employees, visitors, and contractors
  • Supports and guides Good Samaritan in understanding compliance based OHS legislation, interprets legislative standards and advises Good Samaritan of needed remedial actions
  • Recommends appropriate procedures and equipment for safe work performance and legislative compliance with relevant OHS acts, regulations and codes
  • Analyzes incident statistics to determine root causes and recommends corrective actions, procedures, measures or devices to prevent similar occurrences in the future
  • Promotes OHS programs that add value to employees and supports the organization's strategic directions
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the client's OHS knowledge and skills
  • Solicits feedback from clients and monitor their satisfaction with OHS programs and services
  • Incorporates Good Samaritan' Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions into all quality improvement initiatives
  • Participates in the development or revision of policies by providing feedback and suggestions to other departments within organization
  • Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:


Educational and other Qualifications**:

  • Postsecondary diploma in health care, social sciences or a related field
  • Completion or near completion of OH&S Program (university level or equivalent) certification and eligibility as Canadian Registered Safety Professional

Work Experience:


  • 35 years of progressive OH&S experience
  • Experience in a multiunion environment
  • Experience in project management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Good Samaritan safety policies and applicable AB/BC Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Requirements:


  • A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and if applicable a Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
  • A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
