About the Role


Reporting to the Chief Operating Engineer, the Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operations as well as managing the sustainability of the facility from routine maintenance to replacement planning.

Canada Royal Milk's newly built wastewater pre-treatment facility will treat industrial wastewater from our manufacturing process, prior to release. The Operator will ensure compliance with all municipal regulations and liaise with the municipal authority.

Canada Royal Milk is a 24-7 manufacturing operation. The Wastewater Treatment Operator must be able to work flexible hours, as shift work, including overnights, may be required. A disciplined and knowledgeable professional, the Operator will work well independently, and have experience training and coaching others.


Job Requirements

Education:
Post-secondary education in power engineering, wastewater technician, sustainable waste management, engineering technician or related field preferred.


Experience:

Minimum of 3 years experience in a related position or environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of wastewater treatment.


Certification:

A valid 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or Wastewater Treatment Class 1 or 2 Certification considered favorably.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day operations of the wastewater treatment facility as well as plan for the sustainability of the plant through preventative maintenance as well as equipment life-cycle management
  • Train, coach and supervise wastewater treatment technicians
  • Operate wastewater treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plant to control flow and processing of wastewater
  • Monitor control panels and adjust valves manually or by remote control to regulate flow of influent (untreated wastewater) and chemicals
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret metered, gauged readings and test results to determine load requirements
  • Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of wastewater through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes
  • Maintain log of operations and record meter and gauge readings
  • Perform routine inspections of tanks and other associated equipment to ensure mechanical and physical integrity of the system
  • Perform preventative maintenance of wastewater plant equipment and basic troubleshooting of maintenance/electrical issues
  • Perform wastewater plant sampling of processes, and complete analysis of samples
  • Perform sampling, filtration, and preservation of monitoring wells according to schedule
  • Calibrate instruments to ensure accurate analysis
  • Conduct tests (chemical, physical, biological) - such as pH, turbidity, bacteria, temperature and chemical concentrations (bench testing) - in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes
  • Understand and comply with all Quality Assurance policies, immediately reporting any potential issues to management
  • Adhere to health and safety rules and regulations at all times
  • Other duties may be assigned
