Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Certificate or Diploma in recreation and activities or related field
Training in GPA, U-First, PIECES, Montessori, DementiAbility are highly recommended.
Demonstrate knowledge in Dementia Care, Delirium, Mental Health issues and the impact that is has on the resident's quality of life, family members and care partners.
Minimum of 35 years experience working in long term care setting is a asset.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill working with older adults presenting with or at risk for responsive behaviours that may be associated with dementia, complex mental health, substance use and or other neurological condition.
Ability to approach highly sensitive issues with professionalism and tact.
Basic computer skills
Microsoft word, excel and online learning.

Skills and Abilities:

Plan, prepare, execute, evaluate effectiveness of programs based on resident needs.
Implementing no pharmacological therapist such as music, art, 1:1 individualized activities.
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team model yet demonstrate independent practice in organizing and prioritizing work effectively with mínimal supervision.
Support resident documentation: Including Assessment/reassessment MDS coding, RAPS, progress notes, development of care plan and Activity PRO.
Generate new and creative programming ideas especially for residents showing Personal and Reactive Expressions.
