Supervise staff in the design, development and production of training resource materials for centralized and decentralized training programs used by supervisory, clerical, technical and trades staff involved in the transmission and distribution of electricity.

Clients for resource materials are primarily within Hydro One Networks Inc. but also include the Electricity Distributors Association of Ontario, other Corporate clients and external utilities. Prepare and administer the Unit's work program including budget preparation and tracking, equipment/material purchasing and processing/monitoring.

  • Supervise staff engaged in the design and development of training programs. Plan, schedule, organize and assign work to ensure that quality and accuracy of work are maintained and on schedule. Provide advice, guidance and direction to staff in the resolution of work related problems, as well provide clear expectations and performance measures. Provide leadership through demonstration and response to staff requirements to achieve targets and quality objectives. Make effective recommendations on human resource issues, including career counselling, hiring, discharge, discipline and resolving work performance problems.
  • Formulate performance objective and criterion tests for all training modules. Determine how tests will be made and how field assignments will be monitored. Monitor training results through various evaluation activities and assess degree of achievement of overall training objectives. Develop and maintain training valuation vehicles to measure (i) trainee reaction (ii) acquired knowledge (iii) acquired skills (iv) onthejob results.
  • Develop selfsupporting lesson plans and format with special attention to trainee interactive and selfpacing techniques.
  • Prepare and issue confidential reports on students' performance and capabilities. Evaluate students' performance according to established criteria. Evaluate courses for effectiveness and efficiency. Report results of investigations and assessments and make recommendations to appropriate line management authorities.
  • Make presentations on all aspects of training to Line Management and functional group at conferences, workshops and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:


Education:


  • Requires a knowledge of electricity, mechanics, physics and power systems to associated with the transmission and distribution and retailing of power.
  • Requires a knowledge of training technology to design and develop training programs. Requires a good knowledge of English both written and oral communications to write training material and reports and to interact with students, instructors, consultants and clients.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 3 years' further concentrated study.


Experience:


  • Requires field experience in appropriate technical areas to develop expertise in the practical aspects of the various occupations, related equipment, materials, methods, procedures and safety practices.
  • Requires experience in determining training needs, developing appropriate training solution designs and techniques, implementing appropriate training responses, assessing trainee performance and capabilities and evaluating program cost effectiveness. Requires a familiarity with divisional policies and practices and applicable federal and provincial regulations.
  • Requires experience in a supervisory capacity.

A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.


  • Hydro One Field P&C Training Certification
  • Post Secondary education in a recognized University or College in Electrical Engineering
  • Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)
  • Knowledge of the Field P&C training program and Talent Management/HOLMS
  • Membership in Professional Engineering of Ontario (PEO) is an asset
  • Instructional Technics and Design Training is an asset
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the following:

  • Station LAN, WAN, RTU, and SCADA systems
  • Networking
