    Description:

    Under general supervision, operates a number of light and heavy duty vehicles and equipment;performs maintenance functions; moves furniture and equipment, directs casual workers onspecific project.

    Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.

  • drives and operates heavy trucks, vans, pick-ups and cars in making collections, or deliveries for the department;
  • moves furniture, heavy equipment, nitrogen tanks and dangerous goods, loads furniture and heavy equipment onto trucks and delivers to appropriate destinations in accordance with specific directions and regulations;
  • sets ups furniture and equipment for events as directed;
  • operates variety of lifting devices;
  • on specific projects directs casual service workers in performing assigned tasks;
  • may provide a customer with an estimate of work;
  • works on campus cleaning details; collects waste and recyclable materials;
  • maintain records of mileage and fuel used on vehicles;
  • may change tires, make simple adjustments and clean vehicles as directed;
  • performs standard routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; advises on equipment repairs;
  • operates snow maintenance equipment; and
  • other related duties as required.
  • Minimum Requirements for Selection

    Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

    Experience: Three years of related driving and moving experience.

    Other: Possession of a valid Provincial Class "G" driver's license, physical ability to perform required duties, ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), will be required to complete a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act training program.

    Hours of Work: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

    This is a temporary opportunity lasting approximately 12 months.
